3 Reduced Sugar Mincemeat Ideas

Enjoy all of your festive favourites while cutting the carbs.

There are many distinct features of the festive period that stick in our minds. Red & green table runners, age-old decorations dotted around the house, fairy lights strewn across the trees outside, and the unmistakable smell of Christmas spices in the kitchen. One of the most iconic foods of Christmas is, of course, the mince pie; dating all the back to the 13th Century.

This festive treat, although delicious, is often packed full of carbs and sugar in the crust pastry and the filling. Meaning that often not everyone gets to enjoy it! We have come up with a reduced sugar mincemeat recipe which is just as delicious and can be used in these low carb dessert recipes below.

Low Sugar Mincemeat

This recipe tastes fantastic - pretty much indistinguishable from good quality, shop-bought mincemeat.

  • 1 apple, grated
  • 100g of mixed dried fruit
  • 100g of cranberries
  • The juice of 2 clementines
  • 10g of butter
  • 1 teaspoon of mixed spice
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon of sweetener (erythritol)

Just add everything to a saucepan and simmer until the orange juice has reduced and the whole mix is sticky and unctuous. The recipe will keep for 5-7 days in a sealed jar in the fridge, so get cooking with it straight away.

Mince Tart

We've put a tasty low carb twist on the usual bite-size, foil encased pies. This recipe swaps out the standard pie crust for a Lo-Dough base, leaving you with all of the deliciousness of mince pie - with a lot less sugar and refined carbs.

Mincemeat Brownies

We don't quite understand how, but adding mincemeat into our Lo-Dough brownie mix results in something close to a Christmas miracle. These are chocolatey, dense, and taste exactly how Christmas should!

Lo-Dough Mince Pies

There's nothing more we need to say about these little beauties. Cut little circles out of your Lo-Dough base, fill, bake, enjoy! A piece of cake (or pie).
