Easy Healthy Cheesecake Recipes | Keto Cheesecakes

Cheesecake is a classic dessert which origins many would associate with the traditional baked cheesecake of New York. However, its history is much richer and deeper - characteristics also shared with the dessert itself - and are thought to date back to Ancient Greece. So, it's no wonder that this dessert is utterly delicious, it’s had plenty of time to be perfected!

Traditional Cheesecakes

The key features of a traditional cheesecake are simple: a buttery biscuit base and a flavoured cream cheese topping. Although delicious, these aspects tend to be very calorific and packed with refined sugars and carbohydrates from the biscuits, flour and sugar often used. We aren’t saying that you shouldn’t indulge in treats every so often, however, if following a low carb or ketogenic diet, this may not be an option for you. Not to worry, you can create the best low carb and keto-friendly cheesecake recipes with Lo-Dough.

The traditional cheesecake base

As mentioned above, one of the integral components of a good cheesecake is the buttery biscuit base. This is usually made with crushed digestive biscuits, butter, and sugar. So although the crumbly base is delicious, it's also super calorific and laden with refined carbohydrates and sugars.

Blitz up a Lo-Dough base in a food processor mixed with butter and a little erythritol. Unlike digestive biscuits which are loaded with refined carbohydrates and often used in traditional recipes, Lo-Dough bases contain just 2g of carbs each. Using Lo-Dough breadcrumbs (made by simply blitzing your base in a food processor) instead of digestives and flour, you could reduce carbs by over 90%. Alternatively, you can make a delicious, slightly more cake-like chocolate base with our super easy brownie mix. Both bases will be just as delicious, yet low in carbs, calories and sugar.

The topping

The silky, creamy topping of traditional cheesecake is a make or break for the dessert as a whole. It’s incredibly moreish, which is unsurprising really, as it’s mainly made up of sugar, cream cheese and often some sort of fruit or zest. But if you’re looking to reduce refined sugars and carbohydrates, what’s the alternative?

The low calorie cheesecake topping

In almost all of our recipes, we substitute erythritol in for sugar. Erythritol is a natural sugar alcohol that contains 6% of the calories of regular sugar, yet still maintains 70% of the sweetness. This makes it a perfect sugar replacement for reduced sugar dessert recipes
